Welder Superintendent

Job description

We are currently seeking candidates for 2 year fixed term positions at Hinkley Point C location. We would be looking to deploy in January and March 2026. 

This role will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight for multiple welding teams, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient delivery of welding activities in support of the project, upholding nuclear safety culture and project objectives.

Key Deliverables:

  • Promote and maintain health and safety, including site inspections and safety briefings, to ensure a positive nuclear safety culture. 
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of multiple welding teams, each led by a non-working Supervisor, to deliver work to specification (including safety, quality, and schedule). 
  • Provide technical instruction, resources, and support to Supervisors and their teams to ensure delivery to specification. 
  • Monitor and check the work of teams to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and time parameters.  
  • Develop and review short- and medium-term programmes, translating project objectives into actionable schedules and resource plans.  
  • Liaise with Engineering, QA/QC, and other project teams to resolve technical queries and manage interfaces.  
  • Lead, coach, and support Supervisors, including performance management, disciplinary activity, and talent development. 
  • Ensure training plans are designed and implemented for all Supervisors and Operatives. 
  • Identify, monitor, and manage issues affecting productivity, developing ways of working to improve performance. 
  • Report progress, issues, and achievements to senior management and client representatives as required. 

Profile

Qualifications and Work Experience:

Essential: Level 3 Pipe Welder Apprenticeship Standard (ST0851) or equivalent Apprenticeship in a Welding discipline 
Essential: Diploma in Welding Engineering Construction Pipework or Plate, or equivalent (including SCQF Level 7) 
Essential: CSWIP Certificate or IWE Certificate, or Level 2 Certificates in Ultrasonic Testing, Penetrant Testing, and Radiographic Testing 
Essential: CCNSG Safety Passport 
Essential: Completion of ILM Level 3 Certificate C&BE (within 6 months of start date upon demonstration of enrolment) or Completion of Nuclear Engineering Construction Supervisor (NECS) within 4 weeks of start date upon demonstration of booking and CMI Level 3 (following completion of NECS) 
Essential: SMSTS and IOSH Managing Safely (or equivalent site safety qualifications) 
Essential: Demonstrable experience as a team leader or supervisor of welding operatives on large-scale construction or engineering projects, preferably in a nuclear or high-risk environment 
Essential: Experience in managing multi-disciplined teams and delivering to safety, quality, and schedule requirements 
Essential: Experience in performance management, coaching, and development of Supervisors and Operatives


Job Specific Knowledge:
Essential: In-depth knowledge of welding processes, materials, and quality standards relevant to nuclear construction 
Essential: Understanding of nuclear safety culture and regulatory requirements 
Essential: Commercial acumen relating to on-site productivity, wastage, and time/hours


Skills:
Essential: Strong leadership and team management skills 
Essential: Effective communication and engagement abilities 
Essential: Problem-solving and decision-making skills 
Essential: Ability to build effective relationships across disciplines and with client representatives
